A Greener Goodwood
Goodwood is the world class home to luxury car manufacturer, Rolls Royce, and is recognised as the brands official headquarters, incorporating design and manufacturing disciplines as well as the assembly centre. Officially opened in 2003, the plant spans some 42 acres, employing over 1700 worker, and producing approximately 20 cars each day.
An ever-evolving organisation, ongoing maintenance and improvements across the vast site form a natural part of the wider operation, every element addressed with careful consideration. When the Facilities and Engineering team turned their attention to the external lighting infrastructure, the expert team at Omnisolar stepped in to support them as they began their journey into solar.
The brief
All exterior lighting was to be replaced at Goodwood, reducing costs, improving efficiency and reducing energy consumption, whist enhancing illumination and aesthetics. From car parks to street headlighting, bollards and walkway’s, all the way through to amenity lighting - an entire overhaul formed the foundation of the brief.
Implementation
As with many projects, an introduction to solar was critical in order to share an understanding of the technology - the build, the components and operation, longevity, durability and more - a pilot programme was initially rolled out, and with a positive response across the board, the roll out of Omnisolar began.
The programme is being managed on a phased basis, initially focusing on the new Building 10, followed by the car park and walkways, as well as the world famous drive that leads visitors up to the main building, that sits at the heart of the iconic site.
The Products
A range of Omnisolar products have been adopted at Goodwood including:
- Venus pro 2 – primarily being used in the visitor car park
- Pace – 2 bollard - used along the drive, up to the front doors, down the walkways
- Radial fitting – Building 10
The Process
Due to the inherent nature of solar, there has been minimal installation necessary, mitigating any civil or construction work, therefore, realising almost zero disruption or downtime.
The Benefits
The far reaching benefits have been recognised almost instantaneously including:
- Zero running costs
- One off purchase cost
- Zero carbon output
- Sustainable lighting solution
- Stunning aesthetic and finish
The programme remains ongoing and a collaborative partnering relationship has been established between the two teams.
